Border's Crossing is part of a world wide organisation called the Society for Creative Anarchronism. This organisation is for people that like to experience a small section of the past- between the years 600 AD and 1600 AD - without all the bad parts such as famine, pestilence, povety.

Most people take on a persona, that is pretend to be someone who would have lived in those times. They take up a Name, a Style of dress, decide where that person would have grown up - country of origin - and decided when that person would have been alive. After that, whenever they go to an SCA event, they are that person - others call them by that name, they wear period clothes, eat period foods and some even strap on shinny steel armour and fight other armoured people, all in the name on fun. Which it most certainly is.
